This poem was about me, four years ago, without the use of my right hand after yet another surgery. Before that it was my left knee, twice, and now it’s my back … compressed fractures which no surgeon will touch. So into the wheelchair I went. Lupus and RA are insidious. But I’m beginning to get a little mobile again … REIKI HELPS!

Fill the Body, Mind, Spirit With Hope!

Sometimes you just have to laugh, rather than cry.

It does no good to wonder why.

A writer/editor needs her hands

To create and massage the words that land

On her desk or spring from her brain.

But who’s to pen them? It’s silly insane…

To watch irony wreak havoc again…

A story,  a novel…of course that’s when

All the words come together in the perfect blend.

You’ve been looking for them a long, long time.

It doesn’t matter that they don’t even rhyme.

But the howling laughter of the ridiculousness

Of a healing wrist, captive in a brace, no less,

Breaking out in hives from that which heals and defends.

Such are the joys of Lupus, my friends.

The wolf will not get me as I count my blessings.

I’m alive today…no second guessing…

I can poke fun at insidious Lupus

Because I will be here to kick up a fuss

Of giggles and puns about my blisters.

It may not be the case for my sisters,

Who share this deadly disease with me.

Give thanks for the times that you can see

Beyond yourself to the plight of others.

Another day…Another sunrise…Another…

Chance to laugh and let my words be heard

Even though they’re ludicrous and absurd.

I send my giggles and grins to all who cry

Because they can’t smile or stand or even try

To keep the Lupus wolf from devouring them alive.

This writer/editor who can’t hold a pen or type

Can still speak to her DRAGON and all is right!

I am happy to laugh at my silly sorrows

Because there will be new words to write and correct tomorrow.

At this stage of my life I am a fiction author and poet, but I wear many hats! With a 30+-year history and education in editing and publishing, as well as psychology, I have introduced Clasid Consultants Publishing to help writers of all media produce a better product. I am a firm believer that the meticulous high quality of the "old-fashioned" way of publishing, which took months and even years, CAN be accomplished with the new rapidity of our techno/change-o world. All it takes is a little knowledge and keeping an eye on the ever-changing publishing market. I have reasonable fees for coaching/ghostwriting, editing/rewriting, proofreading, full publication layout-and-design, and act as a publishing advisor. My main concern is that the written material be accurate, consistent, beautiful to behold, and interesting to read. I willingly do no-charge reviews on short stories and novels, as I hope you will check out my fiction selections on amazon.com and do a review for me. We all learn from each other, and our perceptions change and evolve with every life we touch. Let me know how I can assist you! I am an avid reader, musician (singer/piano/Celtic harp, guitar, sax), artist, and Advanced Clinical Psychological Hypnotherapist (A.C.P.H). I am an animal lover with a beautiful Turkish Angora Cat named Molly. I am an advocate and speaker for the Lupus Foundation (www.lupus.org), Women's Rights, and "How Not To Be A Victim," as well as esoteric subjects dealing with hypnotherapy, psychic dreams and visions, telepathy, angels, and unexplained phenomena. Sadly, I was widowed in 2018.

  1. When I was young and happened to read “suffering ennobles us”…I refused to believe it though the author had genuine examples to justify the phrase. Life fleeted by and I came across my moment of enlightenment…the moment when I felt helpless and could understand the depth of this truth! 🙂
Deb, I appreciate your attitude towards the monster who gloats over the power he could wield yet could be snubbed by your willpower and resilience. What a lovely way to conquer him! Poetry absorbs all! Stay blessed dear friend.

    1. Thank you. It hasn’t been an easy road. My family never understood so I’ve been so afraid to say anything. The outpouring of understanding I now seeing after 28 years is the greatest gift I have ever received.

  2. Thank you, Colleen. For once my laughter and jokes are stilled … I’m filled with love and joy. I’m not used to this. I would type more, but happy tears has blurred my eyes.

  5. Deborah, I love this line:

‘Give thanks for the times that you can see

Rising above our pain and becoming the witness is a challenge, but it offers so many rewards ❤

    1. Thank you, Trina. I know the widespread pain of Fibromyalgia. In fact, I was diagnosed with it too … as well as SLE and RA. “What?” I asked the doctor. ” how can this be? ” He shrugged and said, “Let’s just call it inflammation … everywhere.” Then my cells augmented and cancer cropped up … everywhere. I call it life, and I’m alive and still fighting … everyday, as you are, my dear. I send you my love and encouragement. Blessings. Do check out Reiki … from me or someone. Nothing has ever worked for me except methotrexate … until Reiki. It’s great for pets, too! Lol My 17-year old Angora still plays like a kitten.

      1. Jeez, Deb, you’ve taken on some heavy karma; and quite possibly, not all yours. I have a friend who is a Reiki practitioner. I’ll get back in touch with her, as she’s helped me in the past. Thanks so much for the reminder. Sending love and hugs your way, my friend ❤

  6. Yeah, I’ve often wondered what horrible deed I did in a past life … maybe that’s why I’m an empath in this life. I don’t want anyone to hurt … I feel it all … but my father was very crippled and we were linked, still are. He’s happy in heaven and loves me. That’s enough to make me smile.

  7. Yeah, even with RA nodules in the joints, I can still type faster than the average bear. I came up the ranks in the Army as a typesetter. Playing the piano helps to, to keep my joints working. The mind works at the speed of lighting!
